Bayero Agabi Honoured For His Immense Contributions To The Growth Of IT In Nigeria

Bayero, alongside other Nigerians were honoured for their immense contributions to the growth of IT and Computer education in Nigeria at the NCS annual conference held in Abuja last week.
Presenting the Recognition Award to Bayero, the umbrella body of all IT professionals in Nigeria said Dr. Bayero has distinguished himself by using the media tools to advocate for the growth and sustainability of the country’s ICT industry, which various statistics show is contributing close to 10 per cent to Nigeria’s GDP.

According to Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, President of NCS, Bayero, who was also honoured by the Nigeria Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS) a few months ago, was primarily considered for the Presidential Award because of his consistent support for ICT growth in Nigeria and indeed Africa.

“Bayero’s passionate verve in nurturing youthful talents in ICT and contribution to the growth of the industry is known to us at NCS. We are happy that he consistently drummed the need for government to pay attention to the industry,” Aderounmu noted.

Responding, an elated Bayero thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Computer Society, especially the President, saying the President Award will only prompt him to do more for the growth of the ICT industry.

In his words, the Africa’s foremost IT broadcast journalist said “I am very proud and highly delighted to receive the recognition of Africa’s biggest Computer Society, the NCS. I simply dedicate this to my team at Transatlantic Media Company who work tirelessly to ensure that the programmes, publications and events which have attracted this honour are sustained. I am equally dedicating this to Alhaji Ladi Oguneye and Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem who have remained my mentors and pillars in the IT industry”.

Meanwhile, this year’s edition of the Nigeria Computer Society National Conference with the theme: IT for Safety and National Security was centred around safety and security of Nigeria and its citizens using ICT.

The President of NCS, Prof. Adesola Aderounmu stressed that the challenges posed by safety and security are surmountable if all decides to work together for the greater good of society especially by maximizing IT solutions. “As a body the NCS is determined to work with other partners and forge collaborations in order to promote IT innovations that will help facilitate and accelerate economic growth in Nigeria and address societal challenges of safety and security,” Aderounmu enthused.

Speakers after speakers emphasized that security remains one of the most critical issues in Nigeria, urging the government and relevant bodies to invest in Information Technology as the key enabler for National Security.

The 26th National Conference provided a multi-stakeholder forum as the Conference brought together academics, innovators, researchers, Students, entrepreneurs, IT practitioners, policy makers in government and the business community.
