The
United Nations (UN) sets aside 8th of March every year to mark the
international women's day to recognise the social, cultural, economic and
political achievements of women all over the world.
The
Pearls Network,
which is a gender base non governmental organisation which focuses on
empowering young women through skills acquisition, educations, capital
financing of SMEs, Sociopolitical awareness, amongst others, is set to mark this
year’s edition of the global event with the theme 'Pledge For Parity'.
The
2016 edition of the International Women's Day will span a week long and is
scheduled to commence on Tuesday the 8th of March 2016 begining with a media
tour to series of TV and Radio stations, and followed on Wednesday 9th of March
by an over 100 ladies Match tagged 'Walk For Parity'. This would also
follow on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th with sponsorship of four (4) girl
children who currently are out of school to get back in school and a dinner
networking seat-out session with stake holders. All of these would culminate to
the day of the final event to be hosted at The Wellness Place Auditorium, 2nd
floor Buffalo House, Opebi Roundabout Ikeja Lagos on Sunday 13th 0f March
2016. 2pm prompt.
This
would feature a debate/ seminar on the topic, 'Miss Independent Vs Miss
Submissive: Ideal status of the African woman.' Prominent and outspoken
individuals have been drawn from various works of life to debate on the subject
matter as guest speakers.
The
event would also feature an exquisite runway fashion show from some indigenous
Nigerian designers, quiz trivia, comedy, red carpet & cocktail, photo
sprout, free gifts and more.
