The 2016 Golden Movie Awards (GMAA) nominees have been announced at a star-studded event held inside the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, Ghana, a couple of days back, which also marked the launch/ambassador introduction of GMAA 2016.
The awards night, themed Changing the Narratives of Africa Through Films, promises a bigger and better ceremony than before. Nollywood star from Ghana, Nadia Buari was unveiled as the edition’s awards ambassador.
Of the other African names and movies nominated, Nigerian movie practitioners and stakeholders such as Biyi Bandele, Oris Ehruero, Bola Agbaje, Chidi Uzoma, Tunde Babalola, Kemi Adesoye, Moses Moses Inwang, Afe Olumowe, Ehisoje Ojesebholo, Jimi Bendele, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Femi Adebayo, Ik Ogbonna, Nkem Owoh, etc, were nominated. Nigerian movies that made the list includes; Fifty, The Cursed Ones, Couple of Days, Stalker, Anniversary, Falling, amongst others.
The Golden Movie Awards is an annual award that seeks to honor outstanding achievement in the African television, digital media and film industries and is administered by experts in the Cinema & Television. The Awards recognizes film excellence in a variety of categories for an international appeal.
The Governing Board will also present one Lifetime Achievement Award, Golden Humanitarian Award and Golden Visionary Award. The Awards which is instituted by NMJ GHANA and its African and international partners seeks to bring together key film professionals, craftspeople and decisionâ€makers from across Africa, to honor, celebrate and promote the talents and accomplishments of African, film industries.
